BGCDSB Trades Fair Connects Students with Real-World Career Opportunities

The event, held on November 26, transformed the school gymnasium into a bustling hub of industry activity. Students were given the unique opportunity to explore potential career paths through hands-on demonstrations and one-on-one interactions with seasoned professionals.

"Our goal is to show students that the skilled trades offer viable, rewarding, and high-demand career paths," said Nonara Henhoeffer, Pathways and Transitions Consultant . "Seeing the students engage with the simulators and ask questions about apprenticeships is exactly what this event is about."

The success of the event was driven by the enthusiastic participation of community partners who are eager to invest in the local workforce. The BGCDSB extends its gratitude to the full list of attendees:

  • Skilled Trades & Unions: Carpenters Local 2222, CUSW, Ironworkers Rodmen, LiUNA Local 1059, SMWIA Local 473, UBC Millwrights, and the United Association.
  • Industry & Utilities: Bruce Power, Hydro One, NAYGN, NII, and the Walkerton Clean Water Centre.
  • Local Business & Manufacturing: Autoreset Group, Equipment Ontario, Larsen and Shaw, Walkerton Home Hardware & Milwaukee Tools, and Wilson's Electric and Plumbing.
  • Education & Community: Fanshawe College, Georgian College, OYAP, Municipality of Brockton, YMCA, Early Childhood Educator Group (Grey County), and the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
