“We have seen remarkable and consistent growth. Our students' success reflects a collective effort by our teachers, support staff, parents, and community partners,” said Karyn Bruneel, Director of Education at BGCDSB. “We are deeply committed to fostering environments where students can excel academically while growing in body, mind, and spirit. This achievement in Grade 6 math is just one example of the fruits of that commitment.”
BGCDSB attributes this success to the Board’s dedication to innovative and holistic education practices. Through a combination of differentiated instruction, targeted interventions, and the use of technology in the classroom, BGCDSB has worked tirelessly to meet the individual
learning needs of every student.
“We implement a range of strategies to ensure that all students can reach their full potential,” said Alicia Tilker, Special Education Consultant. “We have implemented universal screening and a multi-tiered system of support that includes a focus on intervention,” said Melanie Taylor, Instructional Consultant for Literacy. “We have also focused on practices such as explicit instruction, reading fluency and fact fluency, and retrieval practice, which have played a critical role in achieving these results,” added Carrey Diemert, Instructional Consultant for Mathematics.
The recognition from the Ministry of Education further underscores BGCDSB’s leadership in fostering student success across Ontario. The Board plans to build on this momentum and expand these best practices to further enhance student achievement in the coming years.
“This is just the beginning,” said Lori Di Castri, Chair of the Board. “We are committed to continuing this success in all areas of student learning and ensuring that every student, at every grade level, receives the support and opportunities they need to thrive.”
