Lots of Socks

Lots of Socks

for Down Syndrome awareness

Hello all,

As you know Monday is World Down Syndrome Day! This is a big day here in Kincardine with our annual Lots of Socks day celebration and competition (the coveted Golden Sock award is up for grabs again!). We encourage you all to discuss with your students about WHY we celebrate this day. With many people in our community rocking that extra special extra chromosome it is important we make acceptance and inclusion an expectation with the children in our area.

I encourage local teachers to read the book “Meet Will and Jake, Best Buds Forever” to their students, or watch our local friend Adam Dunlop reading the book on CLKD’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3ZlV4BHZno

I also recorded a short video explaining Down Syndrome, chromosomes, and the reason we celebrate LOSD. It is definitely geared towards your younger learners and could be used before reading the story  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nai9Ma9VBLA

Please let me know if you have any questions. MY hope is that next year we can get back to visiting schools in-person!
