Hanover – The Board of Trustees of the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board are pleased to announce the appointment of Alex Van Wieringen as Acting Superintendent of Education. An educator for over twenty years, Alex will assume the role in August 2020.

Mr. Van Wierigen has served in the role of classroom teacher and Special Education teacher. He has been a school administrator with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board since 2001. He has been Vice-Principal at St. Mary’s High School, Elementary Principal at Notre Dame School, and for the last 5 years has been Principal of St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound. He is a graduate of Lakehead University where he earned both his Honours Bachelors of Arts Degree and his Bachelor of Education Degree. He completed his Masters in Educational Leadership from Niagara University. Alex also holds specialist qualifications in Special Education and Computers in the Classroom.

Alex Van Wieringen was selected as the CPCO (Catholic Principal Council of Ontario) Principal of the Year in 2018. He is a strong advocate for Catholic Education and is a tireless advocate for students. Alex has been active in coaching for many years and his St. Mary’s Mustang’s football team won their sixth consecutive Bluewater Athletic Association Championship this season. Alex participates fully in the life of St. Mary’s Parish in Owen Sound.
