The project will add two new child care rooms with 39 new child care spaces to the school. Thompson said the announcement is part of the province’s ongoing capital investment program. Last month the MPP announced the government had given approval to tender up to $567,000 for an additional child care room in Exeter Elementary School to accommodate 15 new child care spaces there.

“In my travels across the riding I hear from families about the wait lists for child care services,” Thompson said. “I am very pleased our government continues to demonstrate our commitment to families in Huron-Bruce and across Ontario so these projects can move ahead. I know the demand is there and I’ve seen first hand the benefits of offering child care on location at an elementary school in other communities across Ontario. I am confident that families in the Exeter and now Walkerton areas will be well served through this provincial investment.”

Chair of the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, Bev Eckensweiler, is excited to receive the approval for this project. “Bruce-Grey CDSB is very pleased to continue and expand our partnership with the Brockton Child Care Centre, and demonstrate our mission to ‘ensure quality learning experiences through community partnerships’.”

“From modernizing our curriculum to revitalizing our classrooms and their facilities, we are investing in our students and giving them every tool to achieve their full potential,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce. “Our financing of the addition to St. Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Elementary School further demonstrates our government’s historic investment in capital projects.”

In May of 2014 construction began on the current facility, a joint project between the Ministry of Education, the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board (BGCDSB), Municipality of Brockton and the County of Bruce. A 4,400 square-foot addition and the renovation of two existing classrooms provided 1,272 square feet of daycare space. The Brockton Daycare Centre began operating from their new home in September 2014.

Planning and construction will commence in 2019, with completion projected for Fall 2020.
