Lenten Journey & Sacraments

FAITH FORMATION

On February 18, Ash Wednesday marked the solemn beginning of our 40-day Lenten journey. I am continually inspired by how our students and staff look inward to find tangible ways to grow in kindness toward others.

Earlier this month, our classrooms witnessed history during the installation of His Excellency Joseph Dabrowski as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Hamilton. Simultaneously, our Grade 2 students continue their path toward the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, supported by our dedicated teachers and parishes.

Community & Support

WELL-BEING

Ensuring every student and family feels safe, seen, and supported is my highest priority. This was beautifully lived out during our "Open Table" gathering on February 11th, where we shared a free meal and fellowship with our neighbours at St. Mary’s and The Missions Parish.

We continue to provide resources for our families through partnerships like the Pine River Institute, and we are currently calling on local creators to join our "Better Together" initiative—leading wellness and recreation programs within our school hubs.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT

Term 1 Report Cards officially went home on February 18th. We hope these documents, along with our recent parent-teacher interviews, sparked meaningful conversations about your child’s strengths and their next steps in the classroom.

To further support success at home, we were proud to host a free EQAO Math Night on February 24th. This webinar provided parents and guardians with valuable insights and resources to help navigate and support math learning for every grade level.

Community Highlights & Joyful Learning

IN OUR SCHOOLS

Sacred Heart (Teeswater): Students are engaging in the "40 Days of Giving" challenge, creating "Meals to Go" for the Connection Centre in Wingham.

Holy Family (Hanover): The school choir sang O Canada at the "Hockey for Hospice" game, supporting the Saugeen Hospice.

St. Basil (Owen Sound): The SBCS Choir performed the National Anthem for the Owen Sound Attack game on February 21st.

St. Peter & St. Paul (Durham): Students celebrated "Frazzlefest" and sold Valentine's Candy Grams to support school activities.

Board-Wide: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations for Black History Month, alongside Blue Mountain ski trips, chess tournaments, and CWOSSA sports.

Showing Up for Each Other

When our students participate in Hospice fundraisers or cheer at Attack games, they aren’t just representing a school board—they are learning the value of civic pride.
These moments allow our students to see themselves as vital parts of the local community, building a bond of trust that goes far beyond the classroom.

Wellness isn’t a box to check; it’s a commitment we keep. By hosting "Open Table" events and partnering with experts like the Pine River Institute, we ensure our leadership remains grounded.
We aren’t just reacting to challenges; we’re walking alongside our community to solve them.
