Pastoral Plan in Action

At the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board, we are beautifully unfolding Year 2 of our 2024-2027 Pastoral Plan, centered on the inspiring theme: "Serve In The Light."

Our focus this year is to guide our learners to deepen their understanding of stewardship and social justice. Through these initiatives, students are actively engaging in projects that make a meaningful difference while exploring service and care for our world as potential lifelong vocations.

Our Faith Blueprint: Goals & Action Steps

To bring this theme to life, our educators and system leaders are working hand-in-hand to weave these values into the very fabric of our school cultures.

 
Our educators are intentionally designing learning experiences that connect faith to daily life. This includes integrating Catholic Social Teachings (CST) directly into curriculum subjects like science, social studies, and religion. They are also facilitating student-centered service projects , cultivating reflection opportunities , and building critical advocacy skills.
 
Board and school leaders are actively modeling stewardship and social justice. They are participating in professional development focused on Catholic Social Teachings , partnering with community organizations , and providing resources to support student-led advocacy.

Faith in Action: Highlights from Our Schools

Our principals recently shared incredible updates on how students across the board are stepping up to Serve in the Light. Here is a snapshot of the amazing Social Justice and Ecological Advocacy work happening right now in our communities:

 

Social Justice & Community Outreach

  • Compassionate Service: Senior students at SHHS and SMHS participated in mission trips to shelters in Toronto and local community outreach projects.

  • Intergenerational Connections: STA students hosted an Olympic-style games event at Trillium Court , while STP and MIC students visited local assisted living homes to play board games, knit blankets, and perform nativity plays for the residents.

  • Meeting Essential Needs: Massive hygiene, food, and toy drives were successfully organized across multiple schools, including SMHS, STC, STA, STJ, STB, ICS, and TSH, supporting organizations like St. Vincent de Paul and the Salvation Army.

  • Creative Fundraising: STA hosted a festive "Artisan Fair" with proceeds funding local justice projects , while MSH organized a month-long coin drive for the Grey Bruce Community Aid Network.

  • Culturally Rooted Support: STB launched an impactful 4-part workshop series titled "Building our Parenting Bundles: Rooted in Tradition, Indigenous Parenting Today."

 

Ecological Advocacy & Environmental Stewardship

  • Protecting Local Ecosystems: SMHS, STJ, and ICS have proudly partnered with local trout hatcheries to support aquatic wildlife.

  • Greening Our Spaces: Beautiful pollinator gardens, tree planting initiatives, and birdhouse building have taken root at SMHS, STB, NDM, ICS, STP, and MIC.

  • Energy Conservation Champions: STC’s Power Audit Team (aka "The PAT") is leading energy audits , while ICS students engaged with Scientists in the School for a specialized energy conservation initiative.

  • Reducing Carbon Footprints: MSH launched an "Idle Free School" campaign to encourage families to turn off their car engines during drop-off and pick-up times.

  • Going for Platinum: TSH is currently working hard to upgrade its EcoSchools Certification from Gold to prestigious Platinum status.

  • Climate Action & Awareness: STA’s Green Team attended the Youth Climate Action Conference to transition their environmental research into real-world implementation. Meanwhile, STB is gearing up for Earth Day 2026 under the theme "Our Power, Our Planet," focusing on collective action and transitioning to a green economy.
