Centennial Basketball Tournament

January 11, 12, 13, 2008

Sacred Heart High School hosted the 25th Annual Centennial Boys' Basketball tournament on the weekend of January 11 - 13. A total of 20 teams were involved in the
tournament. The tournament agenda included games Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a school dance, a mass at Sacred Heart Church, and a team banquet at the Knights of Columbus Hall.

A unique feature of the tournament is the involvement of local families who host the visiting basketball players in their homes. This year, over 90 players were billeted at 36 homes within the Sacred Heart High School community. A very sincere thank-you to all host families.

Fans were treated to very exciting and high calibre basketball throughout the tournament. Although Sacred Heart High School junior and senior teams did not advance to the finals, the teams played well displaying excellent spirit and sportsmanship. Congratulations to all team members, we are proud of your representation in this tournament. Special thanks to Mr. Mark Dunn, Sr. coach, and Mr. Darryl Striukas, Jr. coach.

Holy Trinity (Oakville) defeated St. Joan of Arc (Barrie) 63 - 40 in the junior championship. In senior play, Holy Trinity (Oakville) defeated Resurrection (Kitchener)72 -68 in the championship game.

Many individuals are responsible for the success of this tournament. Thank-you to all staff, students, parents, and community members who may have contributed in any way. Each year, visiting coaches, players and their family members marvel at the unique welcoming atmosphere of this tournament. We appreciate your help in order to carry on this tradition.
