Student Trustees |
Each year, a Student Trustee is elected at each of our high schools ~ Sacred Heart High School in Walkerton, and St. Mary's High School in Owen Sound.
The Ministry of Education mandates that each board must have at least one student trustee. Student Trustees are not board members but do have many of the same rights and responsibilities.

Katie Walsh ~ St. Mary's High School
Katie Walsh is a grade 12 student at St. Mary’s High School in Owen Sound. She is very involved in her school and a community. Since grade 9 she has participated in several school teams including volleyball, basketball, soccer, and cross country running, and has been an active member of her school student council, serving as treasurer during the 2010/2011school year. Katie places a high significance on academics. She is an honor roll student, and last year she attended the Canada Wide Science Fair in Toronto. In the future Katie hopes to study sciences, and eventually develop a career in the medical field. In her spare time she enjoys playing the piano and violin, and working as a lifeguard at her local pool. She is very excited for the upcoming year and will work hard to serve her school and board in a way that reflects Catholic values.

Joceyln King ~ Sacred Heart High School
My name is Jocelyn King and I am in grade 12 at Sacred Heart High School. I am very involved in my school with student council and the rugby, hockey and basketball teams. I have participated on student council for 3 years and have been on the athletic committee for the past 2. I am involved in the Trinity Peer Leadership program and have a part time job at the local nursing home. I also volunteer in my community as being a leader at a kid’s sports camp in the summer and assisting with Canskate in the fall/winter. I was on the Dominican Republic mission trip with Sacred Heart High School this march and it was life changing. That experience has built my confidence and empathy. It has given me a better understanding of the world we live in. I have been very interested in the position of student trustee, since I first heard about it 2 years ago. This is a great opportunity to be able to represent the voice of students in my school community. I am looking forward to this experience and can’t wait to get started.
