Over the past three months a group of students led by Courtney Bushell and Bridget King have been fundraising to drill a well in Haiti in memory of the seven people who lost their lives and the thousands that were sickened during the Walkerton ecoli crisis. This tribute marks the tenth anniversary of the water crisis.

What makes this project particularly meaningful to Courtney, is that she was seriously ill during the water crisis, and required dialysis during a month long stay in a London hospital.

A number of fundraisers were held, both in school and in the community including a penny race, popcorn sales, a BBQ, collected e-waste, sold rainbarrels, and "Bricks for Haiti".

We are pleased to announce that they not only met their goal of $3000 but surpassed this for a grand total of $4288.65! That amount is enough to drill not only a well but to also build a washroom in a Haitian community in need.

On Friday June 11 the students presented the cheque to Teresa McLellan of Lifewater Canada, the Canadian based organization we purchased our well through. Teresa mentioned that she will be using SHHS as an example of how students can bring about positive change and she is thrilled with our success!
