St. Basil's School continues partnership with Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity Grey has introduced a new and exciting initiative to Grey-Bruce!
“Grey Bruce Kids Helping Kids” is a web driven campaign that challenges 100 kids to pledge to raise $250 by Christmas using the most creative ideas possible. A launch took place on Friday, October 22nd at St. Basil’s School in Owen Sound. Students joined in the fun to launch 350 biodegradable balloons to celebrate the start of the campaign.
Catherine Lawrence, Director of Affiliate Relations stated, “I have complete confidence in the generosity and creativity of our kids in Grey Bruce. I have no doubt that we will reach and surpass our goal. The local media is on board and will be interviewing kids that have the most creative and profitable ideas.”
St. Basil’s Student Gabby Lang is making jewellery to raise her $250. St. Mary’s High School student Brandon Lightheart is going to sell off his unwanted games and CDs to raise funds. Other students are shaving their heads, plan to shovel snow or walk dogs.
Lawrence says the ideas are only limited to students’ creativity and all kids that take part will be invited to a year-end children’s gala to celebrate their success.
A donation to the “Kids Helping Kids” campaign not only helps families escape from unsafe, unhealthy living conditions… You are helping families in Grey-Bruce break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. Habitat’s affordable house payments free up money for food, child care, medicine and other necessities. Research has shown that decent housing improves health, increases children’s educational achievement and strengthens community ties.
