What is it?
The Student Success Initiative of the Ministry of Education, which was
originally called the Students At-Risk initiative, began in September of
2003 and has grown tremendously since then. It is now in Phase Three and
continues to provide the framework that will allow all students to be
successful.
Student Success has a number of key goals. These include;
1) Every student has a good outcome
2) Providing new and relevant learning opportunities
3) Building on students strengths and interests
4) Effective transitions from elementary to secondary school
5) Increasing graduation rates and reducing drop-out rates
Recent additions to the program as a result of Phase 3 include:
1) Co-operative Education expansion
2) Specialist High Skills Major
3) Dual Credit programs
4) Credits for External Credentials
5) Special Funding for Rural Schools
The Student Success/Learning to 18 strategy is intended to support all
students to reach their potential and to reduce the number of students
who drop out fo school prior to graduation.
