Co-curricular Programs music and arts

As well as addressing the academic, athletic and artistic needs of students, teachers at Bruce Grey Catholic take on a variety of other kinds of coaching roles to offer a diverse range of activities to students.

These activities help children develop into well-rounded individuals with a sense of their God-given strengths and interests. For instance, students have the opportunity to play chess, learn to play a musical instrument, or sing in a choir.

Some outside of the classroom projects help to challenge students in favorite subject areas.

The Design and Technology Challenges and Robotics Challenges, encourage students to work as a team to design and build prototypes to solve a real world problem.

Schools encourage students to apply their scientific and research skills to design and carry out science and technology projects. Schools run Science and Technology Fairs and several students from each school go on to participate in the Bluewater Regional Science and Technology Fair that is held annually in April. At the regional level all students work have the possibility of winning Bronze, Silver or Gold medals if their project meets the criteria for those standards. There is both a Junior and Intermediate/Senior Fair to showcase students work. The top projects from this fair go to a Canada Wide Science and Technology Fair.

Some students from Grades 2 to 5 in each school annually participate in the Board's Celebrate Writing event. Students share their own published writing with one another. They meet a published author and hear how that author hones his/her craft. Students participate in workshops that focus on writing through a variety of experiences that may include puppetry, drama, carving, music.

Students are encouraged to participate in Public Speaking competitions organized through service clubs such as the Royal Canadian Legion and Lions Club. Students improve their ability to write for a variety of audiences and to speak in public.
