Athletics & Arts

The objectives of the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board Athletic & Arts Association is to promote:

• Social development
• Good sportsmanship
• Skill development
• Enjoyment and appreciation of Physical and Arts Activities

Schools are encouraged to run house league programs to encourage maximum participation of students in each school. House league programs are run during recesses. This encourages physical fitness and a healthy, safe school environment.

Coaching Philosophy for Coaches Dedicated to Healthy Child Development

As a coach dedicated to healthy child development, I endeavour to do the following:

• Keep winning and losing in perspective. My coaching philosophy is based on the guidelines of healthy child development, which focuses on developing the individual, rather than on the outcome of any game or season.
• Keep lines of communication open with parents and athletes.
• Model and teach the values of Fair Play and ethical behaviour at all times.
• Access children's abilities and provide skill development program that meets their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs to the best of my abilities.
• Provide realistic challenges to children so they can experience accomplishment through hard work.
• Motivate children through praise and positive recognition.
• Develop children's self-worth first, and a winning team second.
