All of our religion programs centre ultimately on the person of Jesus, who is for us, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John 14.6) In Grades One to Six, the catechetical program, Born of the Spirit is used to deepen the student’s faith and knowledge of the Holy Trinity, the Church, the life of Jesus, and the Christian call to social justice.
Kindergarten ~ In God’s Image: This thematic approach to faith formation invites the child to develop a self-understanding that he or she has been created in the image and likeness of God, and that "traces" of God are everywhere evident in our world. Grade One ~ We Belong to God: The story of God’s infinite love for us is told through the Good News of Jesus, the Son of God, who, in the power of the Holy Spirit, reveals God to us, and invites us to grow in friendship with him. Grade Two ~ We Belong to the Lord Jesus: Our friendship with Jesus deepens and grows when we gather together as Christians at the Sunday Eucharist. In Grade two, children explore the meaning of our central prayer, the Celebration of the Eucharist, and in partnership with family and parish, they are prepared to share this meal through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Catechesis for the reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation is also a significant part of the Grade two program. The celebration of these Sacraments always take place within the context of the local parish. Grade Three ~ In the Spirit We Belong: Children explore the presence and activity of the Holy Spirit in the Christian tradition. They learn of the Holy Spirit dwelling in Jesus, and in his followers, alive in the Church, and in creation. It is the Holy Spirit who gathers and reconciles us as community, feeds us at the Eucharist, and calls and anoints us in Baptism and Confirmation. Grade Four ~ Come and See: Children encounter Jesus in God’s Word, the New Testament Scriptures, given to us through the Church, the community of believers who continue to express and extend the living Tradition. Grade Five ~ May We Be One: The focus of this program is the Church, the assembly of God’s people, the Body of Christ and the sacrament of God’s action among us, commissioned to bring the message of God to all corners of the earth. Grade Six ~ You Shall Be My Witnesses: Rooted in the Christian tradition, we are called to be witnesses of God’s justice and love in the world, by living a moral life. This program, based on the Bible, presents God’s covenant with us, as expressed through the Ten Commandments, the life and central moral teachings of Jesus, as well as his death and resurrection.
